Two churches and an oratory... religious heritage is omnipresent in Dorres, marking the villagers' ancestral attachment to the Virgin, the Mare de Deù.
In the village, the small parish church of Saint-Jean (12th c.) is home to a magnificent black Madonna and a fine collection of Baroque altarpieces. The ex-votos combining embroidery and women's hair are also very surprising...
A must-see in summer.
Overlooking the village is the small 13th-century Bell-lloc chapel (Monument Historique), which can quickly become the goal of a lovely family outing.
A former monastery of the Servite order, disused during the French Revolution, it was originally the place where the Black Madonna was discovered. The beautiful patroness of the Cerdagne region returns here every year on Midsummer's Day.
